Complete Overwhelm

Thursday, July 16, 2025

Sunday 28th June, lunchtime. Standing in a messy kitchen feeling slightly ticked off that I am making another meal, harboring the thought that if the world was a reasonable place weekend catering would be outsourced so I can get on and tackle ‘higher order’ things. And then I stop and ask myself what’s going on. I love cooking, I love inviting people to eat with us, I love listening to Radio 4 whilst I potter. Monday, June 1, 2025

I had a chat recently with someone who clearly couldn’t be bothered. She exuded fatigue and indifference and I wondered “is it me?” As our conversation unfolded I decided she was professionally bored yet busy; a toxic combination. And there’s...

Hardest job in the world

Tuesday, March 10, 2025

Did you see the ad’ in The Times on Monday reckoning mothers are worth an annual salary of £172K? What a tonic to see smart, sassy advertising associated with motherhood. Mothers are incredible. Putting aside the huge volume of hours they work without pay, bonus or recognition, mothers are impressive because of their capacity to learn and hone a broad range of skills without training. We marvel at babies and youngsters for the way they learn and yet, beside them their mothers are adapting and growing quietly without fuss or applause from anyone. As a coaching psychologist who’s spent...
